In 2012, Riebeek Wine Cellars set out to modernise their grape intake process. HmT responded with a robust, user-friendly automation system that revolutionised how grapes move from delivery trucks to fermentation tanks. Our centralized PLC and HMI interface gave operators precise control over hundreds of pneumatic gate valves, ensuring each grape found its perfect destination. This system not only reduced manual labor but also guaranteed consistent quality and full traceability-key ingredients in operational excellence.
Phase 2: Precision Fermentation Control
Quality wine demands precise fermentation. In the second phase, we equipped each fermentation tank with advanced temperature probes, all seamlessly integrated into our PLC and HMI network. Automated control of circulation pumps and chilled water valves-powered by the cellar’s ammonia-based refrigeration-ensured every batch maintained the ideal 25°C fermentation temperature. The result? Uniform, high-quality wine, every time.
